Double sconce in solid gilt bronze, Louis XVI style
Bronze sconce, old gold finish, great elegance, rich decor, two lights - Lucien Gau - Wall lights
Great elegance and very fine workmanship for this two light wall sconce in gilded bronze in the Louis XVI style. Its antique gold finish enhances the refinement of its decoration, whose degree of precision is made possible by the use of a solid bronze fruit of the best alloys. Its fluted and slightly tapered body ends at the bottom with a bud surmounted by fine, delicately worked leaves. Its two arms in double volutes carrying candles reveal a remarkable quality of work through the engraved underlining of their curves. Two identical basins, fluted, flared and surmounted by a disc with a finely beaded chain, end there. The decoration on the top of the appliqué is original, consisting of a head of foliage. The quality of the execution is exceptional, as is the precision of the decorations. They benefit from the cumulative know-how of six generations of craftsmen working for the house of Lucien Gau, masters in the entirely manual realisation of these works.
