Berkeley matt black articulated geometric desk lamp, by Gau Lighting

Berkeley's geometric design is what makes this all-metal desk lamp so original, with its articulated triangular diffuser and matt black finish. Berkeley consists of a triangular base and short foot, topped by the diffuser, a long piece of metal with a triangular cross-section. The diffuser is mounted on a ball-and-socket joint that allows it to be adjusted vertically and horizontally and is fitted with a honeycomb grid and a white PMMA diffuser whose function is to break up the dazzling effect of the light, hide the bulb and allow it to be adjusted as required. Note the details such as the ball that joins the base to the foot, the ball at the end of the shade and the ball joint in satin-finish antique brass, which contrasts with the matt black of the lamp.

Since 1977, Paris-based Gau Lighting has brought together a team of designers and interior architects to produce a wealth of eclectic materials, including bronze, aluminium, brass, wood, alabaster, glass and acrylic. Gau emphasises the use of technological innovations such as LED lighting, which is carefully integrated into its luminaires, which are designed and manufactured in the Paris region.
